Default AC help

I have a 81 vette. The AC system needs charging and I was at a local unclaimed freight sell when I came across a 15 lb bottle of R-12 which I bought from them for $20

I then went to my nearest pawn shop and bought the gauges for the recharge process. Now all I need to know is how much pressure should I have on the low side and the high side so I dont over or under charge my system? Thanks!

I think you also need a vacuum pump to evacuate the system. I know for sure that you must remove the air from the system.
Good luck,
Bill

That wont be a problem. I can get ahold of a vac pump from a bud of mine we just dont know what to set the pressure to. I will also be adding oil too.

I just tried to look it up in a Haynes repair manual, but they don't give the pressure stating that it should be done by a licensed A/C mechanic.

Once you have it vacuated and verified it holds vacuume.
Look on the sticker on the evap box, it will tell you how many lbs it takes. Connect the bottle with it on an ACCURITE scale, do the math.

Hmmm, Contaband material and stolen gauges, this is starting out right wouldnt ya say? Pressures are determined by the outside temperature. There is no real solid figure for that. There should be a tag with the amount stated on it. I dont have information here, but about 3 lbs. will be close.
