Going to replace my front calipers on my 72 small block. the car is driven every week when it isnt raining year round, so it doesnt sit for extended periods of time. I use the car for cruising, no really hard driving or on a track. My question is are the brake calipers from Auto Zone or Advanced Auto Parts good quality? The price is right and i dont want to spend more money than i need to. Just want to make sure im not buying something that will need replacing in a year or two down the road. If these arent quality, what would be your suggestion? thanks..don

Don, they are just fine for street use when you're on a budget. There are always better calipers out there but the Autozone calipers are just fine. They are S/S sleeved, and they have a lifetime warranty so IF you have a failure all you have to do is take it in and get it replaced for free.
thanks Durango. And thanks for all the other questions you have helped me with in the past. as i have said before, if you ever pass through Birmingham Alabama BBQ and drinks are on me. don

No problem, just glad to help. If I am ever out that way you'll know for sure...you'll hear me coming.
Lip seal. Now, don't go running scared. Lip seal calipers only pose a problem if there is excessive runout and the wobbling is sucking in air. An O-ring caliper can suffer the same problems if excessive runout is present.
I run SS Sleeved Lip Seal Calipers - I installed ithem in 1982 from Vette Brakes and to this day they are perfect! Never touched them in 25 years! I attribute that to the use of DOT5 Silcone Brake fluid in my system.
thanks everyone for all your advice. Im going with the autozone ones this weekend. will post my findings once the job is complete. don
Good luck with everything. Also, just a tip, it's a good idea to replace the flex hoses if they have not been changed recently. They have a tendency to collapse internally after a few decades of use.

Or seven years, like my Cherokee...
I'd highly recommend spending the $80-$100 for stainless flex lines, unless original appearance is a serious concern.
