What's the fan belt configuration for a 72 LS-5 with PS, AC, Alt
I recently purchased an LS-5 with turbo 400, PS, PB, AC, Alt. It doesn't have an emissions air pump (may have been pulled years ago). The belts were arranged: crank/water pump/ps pump, ps pump/alt, water pump/AC, nothing on inside crank and water pump, and nothing on outside crank. Should it have an idler pulley? If so what is the part #. Any help or ideas?

Plash, I am looking in my assembly manual for 454, this is how it shows a 454 with PS & AC.
Back groove: crank, water pump, idler
Next groove: crank, water pump, (back groove) PS
Front groove: water pump, AC
Front groove: PS, Alternator
I don't know the part # for the idler pulley but Dr. Rebuild has it in the catalog.
Hope this helps.

Many LS5's came without the idler and it works fine anyway. I don't know what GM's plan was for the idler. Most original LS-5's I've seen didn't have it.
The inner groove on the crank & w-pump has a short belt. It's a little tricky finding the right length, as there is no adjustment. You find the right belt, and it is tightened when you tighten the bolts holding the w-pump pulley. Works fine, though.
