Dimmer switch?

Dimmer switch?
I have a 78 with tilt and telescopic steering. I need to know what is missing from the dimmer pivot to the rod that goes to the dimmer switch. I can manually push the rod and the dimmer switch works but is there a piece that goes between the pivot and the rod?

Yes- see the little hollow rectangular piece located all the way at the bottom left of this photo just above the long shaft. When you pull the pivot lever, it pushes against this piece. The rod going down to the dimmer switch buts up against this piece..hope this helps
