Question, what is the purpose of the small spring thingy on the power piston arm that connects to each primary rod? What's the correct way for it to be installed? It seems to cause the rods to spring out the way it's currently installed.
Heres a drawing showing the spring in red. http://picasaweb.google.com/Walllpar...63703610419826
I dont know the purpose other than to keep them from possibly falling off but I bet Lars does.
All I know is that its a pain in the *** to get the rods on the spring.

On the assembly line, the spring allowed pre-assembly of the rods to the piston and kept the rods from falling out prior to assembly. The spring also is supposed to prevent the rods from "rattling" in the jets, but I doubt that would really be an issue with the fluid damping provided by the fuel in the bowl.
The springs and power pistons are different on 1967-74 versus 1975+ carbs, but both series carbs use a spring retainer on the rods. I'ver run a lot of carbs without the spring - it makes no functional difference.
