Default High flow water pump

Did anyone ever put a Morosso high flow water pump on one of the early C3 big block motors? I put one on my 69 427 and have been having problems with my expansion tank overflowing. I like the idea of getting the water to pass threw the engine quicker, but it seems like I'm shooting myself in the foot.

One of the problems with the high flow pumps is that it doesn't give the water enough time in the engine to collect the heat and not enough time in the radiator to disburse the heat.

Since you have already paid for it, try using a higher temperature thermostat and drilling a 1/4 inch hole in it. What you will be doing is slowing down your high flow.

Hope this helps.

I have one and no problems, too much water in the expansion tank will do that.Try a little less water(below one half, cold).

I had the same problem. No matter what I did the expansion tank would still overflow water, and no it wasn't overfilled. My solution was I purchased an air lift system to fill my radiator and have never had another drop of coolant hit the ground. I don't think you can ever completly get the air out of your system using the conventional methods, and I did try them all. People will give you all kinds of ways to get the air out but this is the only way to be sure.

"Not giving the coolant time to collect heat" or "not giving the water enough time to cool in the radiator" is an old myth.

Here's some good info:

http://www.stewartcomponents.com/tec...ech_Tips_3.htm

Here are some other ideas:

1) Are you using the little bypass hose between the intake and pump needed to prevent "steam lock"?

2) If your timing is too retarded or if she's running too lean she'll run hot.

3) Have you ever used one of those "stop leak" products?

4) If you've added significant HP, the hi-flow pump is a start,..but it may be time for a larger aluminum radiator. HP = heat.

Let us know what transpires and good luck!

I did'nt have the bypass hose at first, but we machined and taped one in and it helped alot.

2) If your timing is too retarded or if she's running too lean she'll run hot.

My timing is at 38 deg. I don't want to set it any higher than that.

3) Have you ever used one of those "stop leak" products?

It's a brand new rebuild I did'nt add anything other than antifreze and water

4) If you've added significant HP, the hi-flow pump is a start,..but it may be time for a larger aluminum radiator. HP = heat.

Was stock 390hp now dynos at 455hp not real significant increase. Had the stock radiator recored.

My other problem is it won't get to operating temperature, (160deg thermostat) unless just sitting at an idol. As soon as you start driving it cools down to around 130 to 140.
Last evening I put a shutoff valve in the 3/4 inch line from the intake to the heater core to slow flow into the expansion tank and that worked for the flow problem untill high rpm's. I'm thinking I need to put a stock water pump on the #%*king thing.

Tired of screwing around. Going back to a stock water pump. Thanks for all your input.
