I got this one off of Ebay. So far it's been a fine unit. I changed to a Crossfire cap though and am very happy with it.
I think I'd have them dig a little deeper. A vacuum advance HEI should not be that hard to find. I thought it was still used on the ZZ4 GM crate engines?
I've been looking at these for a while. Good to know it's as good a deal as it seems.
now...
whats a crossfire cap? (82?)
A Crossfire cap has a crossing of contacts in the distributor cap so the terminals all line up in cylinder order per side. On the driver's side, front to back, it's 1,3, 5, & 7. Passenger side, front to back, is 2,4,6, & 8.
It really cleans up the look of the distributor cap and wires.

Hi, I went through this when my factory dist. went up. i tried several
aftermarket ones and was never satisfied. I found the gm performance one, and have never had a problem since, look on gmpartsdirect.com. good luck.
hi durango boy! what are those guages on each side of your firewall for and what is the shinny box with red wires for? looks good!----john
The gauges are simply a tool for me to monitor what is going on while standing outside of the car and in front of the engine bay. I still have and use the inside gauges but I wanted something, a second opinion or sorts, for me to use when I'm not sitting in the car.
The box you speak of is a distribution block, designed as a junction point for all the 12V constant sources in my car.
Near certainty the cheap ebay hei is asian ... that 65KV seems a bit optimistic too ... but probably a good value.
If someone else wants a better HEI ... I have never-run, brand new Accel Blueprint HEI ... it's all USA ... $110. With exception of military APO, I don't ship outside USA ... email thru this forum only if serious.

The distributor I got, and I'm very sure it's the same as the one in the auction listed above, is a seller that had a lot of attention at Sema last year. I remember reading of that product in their product book released later and noticed the red plug cover and 65K coil. They claimed, note the seller has not, that the distributors were American made, but probably using Chinese parts.
I'm okay with it actually considering the price and quality of the shaft and internals. IF something were to go wrong a coil is easy and fast and cheap to replace.
Verify that this is not a Pro-Comp distributor. From doing some research the quality control of these units is iffy and although the price is right the quality does not seem to be up to Delco or MSD standards. If anybody has used a Pro-Comp distributor I would be interested to know if they are satisfied with their distributor. A Ebay store sells a Pro-Comp HEI tach drive for $115, it sounds too good to be true.
Pro-Comp seems to be a Austrailian company using Chinese parts.
