I just did some major work on this car after an engine compartment fire and got it running a few weeks ago. It runs and idles great, and I was running it up to temp to test the Dewitt Radiator and fans several times without any issues.
Now I started it up and it was running good for a few minutes. Then all of a sudden, it did something odd. While running it just quit all of a sudden! I started it up with some difficulty and it almost felt like it was flooded. After I got it running, I kept it at about 1800rpm and it was running smooth... then it seemed like it just stalls... then before it stops completely, it catches and runs again right up at 1800. It keeps cycling like this now. I don't have much time to look at it this week, but I am wondering what people would suggest looking for? Water in fuel? Old fuel? It has been sitting for about a year, and at under 1/4 tank. It just seems weird that it started doing this all of a sudden.
I do have all new ignition (Pertronix Flamethrower), plugs, wires, fuel lines, fuel pump (aftermarket mechanical Holley).
It could also be a bad coil (did you replace it?...heat does bad things to them). It sounds like heat is a factor in making the problem occur and that points me toward an electrical problem.
