Default 68 vs 69 steering column

How can I tell the difference between a 68 and 69 steering column? The steering wheel is easy. I am referring to the column. Or for that matter are they the same?

68 will not have the provision for key, cause it goes in the LH dash.69-75 columns are the same, and have the key provisions.

I feel stupid, I knew that. I think I forget things faster than I learn them.

If you need a non-tilt '69 column, I have one available.

I converted from my 68 fixed column to an 80 tilt/tel column. Still have the 68 column in good condition. The conversion wasn't bad but the tilt/tel column doesn't make getting in/out any easier. I only like it b/c I can pull the wheel into my lap which is much more comfortable. There is a conversion plug from Lectric Unlimited that plugs into the 68 column and the other end plugs into the 80 column. Works great.

Will have to look for some with the stock steering column in the car for comparisson but its been a while.
Original Column (not sure if wheel is original)

Here's the finished result.
All the brackets had to be changed to the 80 style except for the bracket riveted to the firewall. The two other steering column brackets had to be changed to the 80 style. If you want pics let me know.

Mockup:

Not a difficult conversion if your willing to pull the entire driver dash off to have access to all the column brackets.

I'll trade ya...a pic of an original 68 steering wheel for the seat information! ok good deal.

The seats are Corbeau GTS II leather seats. Same seats you can get from SpeedDirect but $$.
I got them used low miles and black leather with seat adapter brackets from someone on the forum a year and a half ago.
Not sure if he got them from Speeddirect or not. They fit tight but look great and are very comfortable. Not a ricey look either but very supportive. I like them.

haha the ignition switch is 1 of 5 anti theft devices in my car.

I wanted to remove the one from the column but I would have had to dismantle the column to remove the lock cylinder and then patch it somehow...and I liked the idea of being able to lock the column.
So i left it there and use the key to lock and unlock the column.
It will not start the car, but if some dumbarse wants to try they can play with the column all they want. Not many will know there is an ignition cylinder in the dash, and if so, which one works.
The dash cylinder works.
But I also have 4 other switches/valves that can inmobilize the car. Now I just have to figure out how to ward off flat beds
Got a couple of ideas in the works.

I just hope to have that filler panel fitted, painted and installed before the snow flys.
They promised me at least one more ride before winter.

Hi

Here is a pic of my aftermarket steering wheel in my 68 against the original 68 wheel.

Man, that wheel is big and makes getting into the seat nearly impossible.
A tilt column would defenatly be great.
