Last night I desided to be proactive, and change the fuel filter in my stock L48 '79.
When I unthreaded the fuel line, it looked like "bubba" had been there because there was some tephlon tape. So unthreaded the piece that holds the filter in, it had tape on it also. I put the new filter in, and put it back to together... without the tape.
I start it back up, and it's leaking fuel. So I take it back apart, and it looks like the threads in the carb have some damage, and I can't get it to stop leaking. So I went to bed...
Today I went to Autozone, and they had a self taping rapair kit in the "help" section, but it was for a Holley carb, and they didn't have the one for mine. I had the clerk look the price of a new carb, and it was $229...and there is one in stock at another store.
Does anybody have any other suggestion on how to fix this?

Your inlet threads are stripped - very common problem. They need to be correctly repaired with a stainless steel insert - not with the oversized self tapping fitting or with Teflon tape - Teflon tape should never be used to seal an inverted flare fitting. If you need this done, e-mail me for the Services Info Sheet - I can do the correct repair for you if you want. V8FastCars@msn.com

Yea it looks like that, but not quite as bad. I was able to get it sealed with the tape for a short term fix. I will keep an eye on it, because I really don't want to have a fire.
The autozone carb is a rebuild.
Anyway, I added it to my list of winter things to fix.
