I had one of these when I lived in Alaska. Absolutely top notch, however I added a plywood underlayment to the top because of heavy snow. I only used it my last five years there but could detect no apreciable wear to the material.
Good luck
what brands are you looking at? I need something for my cars too. I saw this one on ebay which is cheap ... I wonder if any of them have flooring (tarp floor or something).
It seems the one I had was advertised in Hemmings and was a very heavy duty construction. Frame poles were 2.5 in or so and vinyl cover was quite thick. I wouldn't take a chance with that collapsing on my car.
Good luck
I've been doing my frame off in a tent by Cover-It.
Been about two years now. No leaks at all. Got it from PepBoys for about $199 two years ago. Not the best materials and not snow rated.
I welded gussets to each bend for the roof to support more weight and prevent the poles from spreading. Also ordered a second door from Shelter logic so I can zipper up both ends of the tent. I've definitely got my moneys worth so far. Not a permanent structure though, I can see the wear on the tent after two years. I'd spend more $$ on something that would stand more permanent. I've heard good things about Shelter Logic.
I do get nervous when it snows and am outside every hour with a shop broom pushing the snow off the roof. Won't take any chances with the car underneath. I wouldnt' feel confident with my tent if the snow started to pile up.
My cousin had (still has?) the Pep Boys one but make sure you have it anchored cause the wind blew his away. He had a small pickup under it and after he put it up again, he tied the tent to the pick up.
get one thats not so unnecassarily tall, mine was like a barn, it blew into my woods last october... i thought it was staked down well enough :P
my yard is too wide open, no wind protection
I looked out my kitchen window one afternoon at like 5pm and was just thinking, "huh... how come i can see that car?" It had the rake that was propped against the carport just laying against the car now, like nothing had happened.

i have two tents i bought 4 years ago.
they are the 11x16 footers and they have lasted thru 4 harsh winters.
the ones i have are made by harnois and come with a lifetime materials warranty.i paid $300 canadian each.when i went to pick them up they had tents set up that had been up for almost 10 years and looked new.these are staked into the ground in a way that the harder the wind pushes on it the harder it diggs into the ground.
the only issue you will run into storing a car is moisture.
i keep a dehumidifier in the tent i keep one of my cars in.

I hear ya. I have cinderblocks on the bottom of each pole. The tent came with a "boot" on the bottom of each pole that I guess you can use with stakes, but I just drilled holes in the cinderblocks and bolted those "boots" to the blocks. Wind blows it but doesn't move it. I also have a very narrow driveway and have fences close to both sides and have a safety rope tied over the top of the tent to the two fences just in case.
I can take pics if anyone is interested in how I set it up. Just let me know.
