Has anyone ever heard any one griping about or having a failure with the jeep box?
The only thing I have heard is that is to quick, my next question is since the jeep box is 400 dollars cheaper you put it on and forget it why are we even having this discussion?

Just curious Jeff
SSS/Jeff, then there is me, with my ~5.5 y/o rack install right here in my garage, like Idar Andersson in Europe did about 4-5 years before ME even....
my brackets weigh about 1/2 or less than anyone commercial....solid as a rock, cause they are triangulated properly
I get under there and check it out periodically, but have never found a problem, yet.....I drive it nearly every day without worry though....
so I suppose it's not TOO bad a design.....
I really should jig up and start production of my brackets, but unsure they can fit ALL C2-3 vettes.....

Jeff, or anyone else who may know, I've been meaning to ask... the Jeep conversion is strictly a power steering setup, right? If so, for us manual steering guys it looks like the options are pretty much to properly lash a stock box that 's in good shape (something that would amaze quite a few owners with the difference), or to go with a rack.
Sorry, I don't mean to hijack. That power steering failure that results in a pull to the side, is that due to a valve locking in one position and should that be checked regularly? Or what causes the problem?

I didn't pull mine apart to find out what happened, but I'm guessing it wouldn't take much to stick a valve open. The amazing thing was the amount of force exerted. I'm no Hulk Hogan, nor a 90# weakling, but once it jerked into full lock there was no fighting it with the engine running. Even stretched the leather on the wheel out of shape trying to get it to free up.
Come to think of it, the same thing happened on a '62 Coupe deVille which my folks had when I was a tyke. It may have actually shared a similar design according to my father's recollections, but the problem was obviously remedied by Cadillac before Elvis eventually bought it for his uncle Vester in about '66.

Hey Charlie, the jeep box is a power only box. It has a very good feel, when you dial in 4.5 to 5 degrees caster and really transforms our c2-3 chassis to a modern day.

This is my installation if you havn't seen it.
Jeff
Looks like a clean install. Especially like the U-joint in place of the wrag.
I don't know for sure which headers it will clear. I am using the headman side exhaust header that I cut off so I could a use a crossover pipe. Tom at Corvette Steering service could probably answer that for you. We run a jeep box on my sons 73 with a 383 and it also clears just fine.
Charlie how did you get that picture to come up, it did not come up on my post? That happens sometime and I don't know what I am doing wrong.
You are doubling up on the [img] tag. When you have a photobucket account, left click the 4th choice under the pic and then just paste it in the post without typing anything else.
This is an update on my Steeroids R/P. I've put over 2000 miles just got back from the turkey rod run in Daytona. I love my steering. I would set my cruise at 80 mph. And did not have to work at keeping it in a lane. Very enjoyable ride. I park my Vette on a lift at my shop. Nothing has moved. After I tighten all the nuts and bolts to specks with RED lock-tight I took a white layout marker and marked each nuts position so I will be able to tell if they move at all. I didn't use the 4-1/2 bolts that came with it. I used the stock bolts. Bolt head locks into the square holes in the frame. If they didn't move in 29 years that's good enough for me.
