Default Re-Tires

Thanks for the opinions on the tires.
Anyone have pics of the firehawk ss20 on their car?
I like the look of the goodyear gt but tirerack rates them as rough and noisy!
I am trying to get the ride a little more civilized in my 81!

I just got the dunlop sp sport 8000, 245/50-15 and they are sweet tires. Tirerack said they were noisy and didn't have great wet traction, but they have far surpassed my expectations. (much better than toyo touring 700 treadlife poopie) :D

Here is a picture of them on tsw71's Vette. I hope he doesn't mind me nabbing this pic from his Web site. I purchased my Firestone's after seeing them on his car.

I could be mistaken but I believe that tsw71 is runnning 255-60 R15s. That is the size that I have on my '80 with OEM aluminum rims.

I believe that they are only S speed rated (112 mph ?)
Go to tirerack.com to check them out http://www.tirerack.com/tires/firestone/fs_ss20.jsp

That is one FINE lookin' '69

Here's a link to a photo of my car. It's an Anglefire page so you may not be able to view it from another website (i.e. The Corvette Forum). Just copy this URL to your browser and it should work.

My tires have the older style lettering but you'll at least get an idea of how they look. They're 255/60/R15s

Miker is correct. Those are 255/60-15's. They are in fact only S rated, but unfortunately, there is little available in this size in higher speed ratings. Here's a few more pics of the tires. Sorry they are so big, but I did not have any photo editing software at the time I uploaded these and it's way too early in the morning to do it now  :D

In my opinion the Goodyear Eagle GT+4s that I had been running were definitely not as soft and quiet as these Firestones. They had a higher speed rating and stiffer side walls. Those tires aren't even available any longer.

I think it would take "MIRACLE TIRES" with the ablility to hover on air just above the road surface to truly make a C3 ride soft and quiet!

I agree. Higher speed rating and stiffer sidewalls = better handling. I believe there is still at least one manufacturer who makes 235/60-VR 15s (Yokohama). Yes, they are a bit narrower than 255s, but their handling ability is superior to that of S-rated tires.

"That is one FINE lookin' '69" Those L88 hoods must be made from pure testosterone! They look TOUGH!
One of these days I might look into purchasing one for my Black '80.
