If a gas-filled shock will affect the car's height at all, it's rarely enough to be noticeable. They won't raise a car two inches.

Is it the rear only that sits higher?
If so, the rear sway bar links can "flip" and jam, holding the rear up an inch or two.

"Designed to deliver maximum driving control, KYB's Gas-a-Just® High Performance Shocks provide a high performance ride. Gas-a-Just® High Performance shocks’ higher gas pressure keeps tires glued to the road while its superior strength monotube design with floating piston makes for fade-free performance and the seamless cylinders and eye rings provide durability. The Gas-a-Just® High Performance Shocks offer a wide range of applications including RVs and motor homes." <- from KYB site

whats the 'a-just' part?

I've been looking at these for my 81.

I was thinking the same thing.. Cause they dont A-Just !!

But like it says they sure do make the car hug the road...

Im thinking now i can put some different tire on the car. A little wider in the back.

Not realy sure yet ..

I think you've just been breathing exhaust fumes from that brown truck too long Drive it for a couple of weeks and see if it starts to look normal.

Man, your 'vette is all over the place. I guess when you say "hug the road" you mean it!!! , first it's all bent out'a shape, now it's 2" higher? I think it's time you put it on a drive on lift and took a good look at the frame, body mounts and suspension.

What shocks did you buy and from who were they purchased?

Could they be for a different application?

Ride height is controlled by the springs and has nothing to do with shocks.

Hey Matt, I got KYB's Gas A Just's from ebay.
And I tossed the boxes that they came in.

This could all be in my head too... But its almost a fist width from tire to fender... ?

The shocks should have the part numbers stamped into the metal at the bottom of the tube base. You could have the wrong part numbers.

Hi ptroxx,
If that were my car, I would look up the ride height specs in the Chevrolet shop manual and then measure the car. That way I'd know exactly where the car is vis a vis what it should be; to high, too low, just right. Knowing that would make it easier to decide what, if anything, needed to be done.

PS. I used to live on Railroad Ave., near 101.

Cheers,
Pete

Another suggestion would be to take the front shocks off or just unbolt the bottoms and see what happens. That will tell you if your shocks are affecting your ride height. I'm sure you know, but in case you don't, be sure to have the car jacked up with supporting stands on the frame while unbolting the lower shock bolts.
