That's a big compression ratio. I'm thinking no pump gas??

A lot of compression for the street. Did not say which cam you are using. With an auto to get that much power it is going to be a big cam. You will need a high stall converter.

What's the application ????

If it's primarily for drag racing, then might be a good thing, although your auto will need some beefing up to cope with that torque? And a 3000 rpm stall converter would probably be the minimum to get going strong.

If it's a street car, then that 12.9:1 CR is ridiculous.

Where will you get the high octane race fuel when you're touring?

CR of 10.5 could still get you around 500hp, especially with a decent solid roller. I'd also consider a dual plane manifold. Professional Products have an Edelbrock RPM Airgap clone which would work well. Might lose a few peak horses, but broaden the torque range to provide stronger pull from lower rpm for a street engine.

Cam selection will dictate a lot though.....

I have just installed a 383 stroker in my 68 vert, but have also swapped out my 3sp auto in favour of a 5sp manual.
Incredible transformation.

Cast crank and KB Hypers in a 12.9 to 1, 522 HP 383 is asking for trouble. Upgrade these to forged for this application. Don't think it is a pump gas motor, Race fuel only.

take your rear end ratio in to account too when you are buildiing a high horsepower motor. if it makes peak power about 5500 RPM which I suspect is going to be the case anything less than 3:73 is going to feel like taking off out of a mud pit.

what's the thoughts on this one

383 400 hp/440 ft/lbs

Block:

* 4-bolt main block
* Passenger side dipstick
* Square and parallel decked
* Align-honed main bearing bore
* Cylinders honed on computer-controlled machine to within .0002 straightness and roundness
* Cylinders are sonic tested for thickness

Rotating assembly:

* SCAT forged crankshaft
* Probe forged pistons
* SCAT I-beam connecting rods
* Hastings moly rings
* Balanced rotating assembly
* Melling high-volume oil pump
* Flat tappet hydraulic lifter camshaft
* Heavy-duty double roller timing set

Cylinder heads:

* Dart Pro 1 aluminum heads
* Hardened retainers and springs
* 2.02 swirl-polished intake valves
* 1.60 swirl-polished exhaust valves
* Hardened pushrods
* Professional Products dual-plane satin finish intake manifold
* 9.5 to 1 compression
* BluePrint Series aluminum valve covers
* Kevco oil pan
* Silver Seal chrome timing chain cover
* Professional Products harmonic balancer
* Brass freeze plugs

I thought the forged crank and pistons should be good for future upgrades.

If I changed the cams and maybe heads, could I get this motor to 500hp, running on pump gas??

cheers

From me! Pump gas 10.25 to 1. No need for future engine upgrades. Here you go.
