Engine will not start when hot
The problem is ,If I run the car for twenty miles or more then stop and turn the engine off , then try to start it again it will not start , the engine will turn over and If I pump the gas it will eventually splutter but not start, but just flatten the battery,
This is an inherited problem as I have owned the car for a couple of years but only just finished working on it to get it on the road and discoverd this on the first few runs.
I know you get heat sink on the starter but can you also get it on the carb, I've heard of adaptor plates being used to lift the carb off the mani just to help with heat problem.
Any help will be appreciated , John
I would try shuting down the choke.
Sometimes the elec choke will come on even at running temp.
If it's adjusted real rich, you could be flooding the engine.
The gas in your carburetor start to boil when you stop the car (thermal collapse) and even tha gas line will boil.
The net result is a fuel pump empty of gas and full of vapour.......
A solution (I did it on my old engine..) can be a "T" fitting in the fuel line to the carb with a very small purge hole (around 0.050") wich you can re-direct to the return gas line.
The flow capacity of the pump will not be affected by that..... but from a small hole a lot of vapuor can be purged!!!!

Also make sure the fuel line isn't touching, leaning (or is very close) against an exhaust pipe or headers. When I was youngin, I had a VW Beetle and it did the VERY same thing until I realized the fuel line was resting against the exhaust manifold. It's an easy thing to have done especially with the limited amount of space in the engine compartment.Good Luck!
