I paid $50 from a catalog company for my 66, about three years ago. I can't imagine them at $100 now.

I think i'm gonna get the current ones resurfaced :(. I always used to laugh why people pay $10 to get rotors resurfaced, when you can have new ones for $20... now i know!!! :mad

The only problem with "resurfacing" is that it is actually a cutting of the surface. Most of the rotors that are sold will only stand one minimal cut before it becomes too thin. Why are you looking for new rotors? I know of guys with almost 100,000 on their cars who still have original rotors. That is one reason I always go with the OEM style brake pads. The pads wear before the rotors.

Zip has them for $69 too.
I would think you'd be able to find cheaper if you searched around.

FWIW, I had my rotors turned when I put my SS calipers on.
If you don't have any grooves in the rotors they could probably clean them up pretty nicely without removing too much material.
It's worth a try to ask.
Mine are now about at the minimum thickness (can't remember exactly what that is), but they looked very nice when I got them back.
I think it cost $12 a piece.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong here, but the worst thing that I think can happen if the rotor is too thin is for it to overheat and eventually warp, which would be noticeable as front end / steering wheel wobble. YES/NO?

i've done many rotors on all my cars. both new and resurfaced, and find getting new ones are worth paying the extra over replacing again six months down the road with resurfaced. don't forget to replace the pads also.. my 0.02

Cheapest I found for the fronts was from YES, believe it or not....J.C. Whitney. I paid $44each and got free shipping because my total order was over $120. I got an idler arm from them too $39. Looks the same as what I took off. Had the rotors on since January '00 and no complaints.

I worked at a brake shop in my youth and turned many rotors. The reason most modern roters can't handle more than a minimal cut is $$$. They're made out of cheaper, thinner, crappier material than in days of yore. C3 rotors are very good candidates for resurfacing unless the scoring is very deep.

Unless they are still rivited on. Then its best to put off unless you REALLY have to. Do you really wanna drill out those rivits? :) haha

Then you gotta deal with those calipers. ugh. But if you're removing the pads, thats the major PITA IMO.

I recently did the brakes on my eclipse and it was so easy it wasn't really fair. Didn't feel like I accomplished much. :D

Jenny, One reason they are riveted on is to keep them together during shipping to the "assembly line"
Vette rotors have to be checked to make sure they don't run out more than a few thou. If they do you will have problems with them sucking air into the calapers. The rivets make it so that won't happen; if you can't take them off, you can't put them on wrong.

I just replaced a warped one from ZIP for $69. As far as the rivet drilling- a piece of cake. Bring it up to me(WI) and I'll do it for you. I don't know why so many people make such a fuss over this. 1) Center punch the rivet. 2) Drill an 1/8" pilot hole about a 1/4" deep. 3) Re-drill with a 3/8" bit just until the rivet head comes off. 4) Drive out the rivet with a drive pin punch(with the rivet at about the six o'clock position for clearance). No big deal, the rivets are soft.

Do you have a discount auto where you live. I found mine there for 49 each. I would also think about shipping too. that would add to your total price if the came in the mail. lou

The other night I did some reading about brake stuff. From what I read, they say to check the rotors runout even if it is brand new.

did u check muskegon brake company??
Muskegon is an awesome company, I got my rotors for $55 a piece for the front. My back rotors were in decent shape, so I didn't get those, but I think they wanted $45, either C3 or C4.

I think one of the reasons Corvette guys remember Muskegon so well is Shawn Fox(I think thats right), the sales girl, what a sweety. :)
