what is it? My wipers wont work, when I touch the switch something was clicking like mad in the center console. I took it apart and found a small electronic box with two factory wiring harnesses attached to it just sitting under the console, it fell out when I pulled the side trim off. Anyway, I can barely touch the switch and this thing starts clicking. I have been through all my parts books and cant identify it. I can find a brief reference to it in my rebuild book and it says its possibly the wiper pulse ASM.
I have pics of the thing, but I cant figure out how to post it. I guess this thing is bad because of all the clicking but I cant identify it to get a new one!
anybody else had this problem?
thanks for the info on posting the pics, hopefully I did it right
You did great. If you want the actual picture to show up in the post, just add to the back of it. I changed them in the quote, and you see how the picture shows up.
thanks for the info, the other guy's problem is exactly like mine. I had tried to search it also but had looked for pulse wiper and such. I dont know anyone around here that has one I could check mine out in, guess I will just look around and see if I can replace it somewhere. thanks for all the help!
lets test the rest of the circuit to see if it works.
Remove the controller
Jumper the yellow wire to the brown wire on the three conductor plug.(you should be able to stuff a wire into the plug)
Wipers should work on hi and low. Delay will not work and the washer pump will not work.
My first guess is that there is a bad connection at the wiper switch or a bad ground from the wiper switch.

tried it, disconnected and jumped from the yellow to the brown, nothing working. when I disconnected the pulse regulator, it fell apart, somebody had been in it before me and the electrical tape holding it together gave way, I cleaned it all up and stuck it back together. When I touch or just wiggle the windshield wiper switch, this thing just starts chattering away. I then decided I would check the wiper motor itself, it has power going into the separate red lead on the housing but nothing is moving, disconnected the wiper arms and tried to rotate the motor just hoping it was stuck, but its not giving. Looks like its locked up too. Trying to locate another motor now so I can get back to troubleshooting the wiring.
I havent even started on the headlights yet........... gotta go get some more beer!
stupid me forgot the ww motor was a screw type and you cant pull the arm to make it move. Anyway, motor is ok, it got a new lube job while I had it down. Checked all the wires and the grounds and everything is ok, IT JUST WONT WORK when plugged into the harness.
Found the little circuit board on the fuse box, they have spliced into it and put a 10 amp blade fuse in line. Fuse is good, could the circuit board be bad? There is still power going thru the fuse, I can only assume its inline with the ww motor.
With the jumper (brown to yellow on the 3 conductor connector) installed check to see if you have 12volts at the wiper motor center wire(white).Or jumper 12 volts directly to the center terminal of the wiper motor.
Ground the top connection on the motor(purple) and bottom connection(gray) . wipers run on low.
open the bottom connection, wipers run on high.
open the top and ground the bottom. Wipers park and stop.
If your wiper motor checks out ok and the 12 volts from the jumper is good then the problem must be at the wiper switch or the wires from the motor to the wiper switch or the ground wire from the wiper switch to the frame.
I think that the 78 included the option of removing the wiper controller from the circuit. I think that you remove the little circuit board from the fuse panel and replace it with a 25 amp fuse. I cannot comfirm this though as I do not have a 78.
Success! I put my multimeter on it to check the voltage and wasnt showing any, although the wire had power, it was the GROUND!!! Thanks for the advice Dale, you got me to thinking again, I guess I have Vettecramps in the brain. Also, the switch is bad, but it still works I am going to order a new one.
I plugged the pulse module back in and the wipers still work, not sure if the pulse mode is working right or not as the switch has several bad spots in it but it will work if you wiggle it. Thanks again Dale, now I can get some beer and install the new body mounts.

Hi Dale please could you help?
I have the similar clicking going on at the controller behind the pass seat on my 81. Have checked the motor by direct feed onto the three pins at the motor, it works.
Could you tell me where the 3 conductor plug is? There is no yellow wire at the controller, which is what I thought was the go-to place to jump yellow to brown.
Have prised the dash switch out but cannot get to the anchor point inside...the steel box plate is firmly anchored somehow.
Have opened the switch, all contacts appear to be good, lightly cleaned with fine sandpaper, and put back together. The clicking at the controller still there, and still no go with the wipers.
I see you mention grounding issues as a possibility so am currently trying to figure where I should be looking from the dash switch onwards...
Thanks Richard
Hi Richard,
I see this is your first post, so WELCOME!
You've pulled up an 8 year old post which isn't always a good idea.
For instance, Dale, hasn't been active on this Forum since 2013. So it may be that he won't even see your post.
You might want to start your own thread with your question and you'll be sure to get current 'reads' and 'replies'.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan
If you bench tested the motor while it was in the car using your own wiring...and KNOWING that the center wire in the 3 wire connector that goes to the motor is 12 volt power when the key is on...and the outer two terminals are GROUNDS that are being switched by the wiper switch.....REMOVE the three wire connector at the motor and verify what is happening when you use the switch. IF these two outer wires switch as required...I would be concerned if the motor is grounded as required.
