Default Sidepipe idea

Has anyone ever decided to install sidepipes and also put a cut-out valve near the sidepipe outlet and ran it through the mufflers on the highway and ran the sidepipes in town or on the track?
One idea also would be a vacuum operated cut-out that would pull a cable to open the sidepipes if you "Kicked it down" when you were passing some old steel car and give you an open exhaust and HP.
What do you guys think?
Can this be done?
-Thanks,
Charlie

Interesting idea, but why not just always use the sidepipes? Best for performance and sound

I saw a wicked 5.0 mustang at a cruise night with something similar to what you are describing. I was looking at it and said to my friend how much I liked the sidepipes on it, only to find two more sets of pipes behind the car. Kinda confused me at first until I got under it and saw the valves. It's a cool idea, but make sure you can't see the undercar system. It looks silly if you can, kinda like those people that put on fake sidepipes just for looks

like the old hot rods who have a screw on cap on the end of the header pipe and them a down pipe to go to mufflers

This works pretty good.
Three bolts per side and it's open

I wish I had room for an electric cutout..

Way to much work. Just use your sidepipes and connect an elec cutout flange. This way on the roads use the pipes and when you want to scare soemone just flip the switch.

This is what I am in the process of doing right now.

I agree with " Defseax " . I run Hooker Header sidepipes with STS Baffles with no loss of HP and they sound Great. You are able to tune them to the best sound by Drilling 1/4 inch holes into the center baffle plate or just remove the plate altogether and get a real growling sound from them. Best thing I ever put on my car for sound and looks. Check out the Web site for the STS baffles I think they have videos with sound. I have had Corvettes all the way back from the late 60's and these make my 1976 sound like a big block from the old days. I'm a little older these days so I am into sound more than speed and these do the trick .

I have actually seen a C3 set up like this. It had open sidepipes and a full rear exit exhaust. It was somehow switched from one to another from inside, most likely an electric cutout. Looked a little weird, and two exhaust systems add weight.

I've driven 200+ miles with sidepipes, loved every minute of it.

But I do know, some people don't like it that loud.
