Like most here, when I signed up on the forum 2 years ago I was just passing through. I had 95 torch red convertible (still have) so I decided on the handle "95 Ragtop" for the car. As many of you know, I'm a Nam vet and have a passion for both Vettes and Vets. About a year and a half ago, I wandered over from the C4 board and started visiting this group. It didn't take long til I knew I had to have a chrome bumper shark. I bought the 71 and by December of last year started the long journey to build my car.
When I attended the first Cruise-In at the NCM (Memorial Day 2000), I saw the "Rebel Shark" and fell in love. I went back to "that car" many times over the next couple of days. The dream started to develop for a car that would satisfy both of my passions. Instead of the rebel flag paint, the American flag. It grew from there. The car needed to be as bold as the theme. Something that Vetters and Veterans could both relate to.
Oh yeah, about the name. In 1995 I made the run to The Wall in Washington DC. I didn't go on a Harley, but in my 90 white Corvette convert. I cherish the picture at 20th and Constitution Ave, where my friends surrounded the Vet with hundreds of hogs. It was then that I became aware of "Rolling Thunder" as something other than a bombing campaign in Nam. It was one of the most touching experiences of my adult life.
Somewhere along the way, I adopted the "Rolling Thunder" name for the car I'm building. Nearly a year into it, I'm still trying to insure that when complete, it will be a source of pride to my fellow Vette owners and my brothers who have served their country.
o.k. i'm a railroad engineer. dash8 is a model of a locomotive. such as, b40-8. this stands for; b: four axles; 40 stands as four thousand horsepower: ,and dash8 means the year of design. in this case it's 1988. this deign are the sports cars of the railroad. most are geared for 90 mph.
Re: Why did you pick your handle? (Rolling Thunder)
I give a ride to a co-worker and friend. He referred to ponying up for gas money with the line "We must feed Vaal", a reference to the old Star Trek episode "The Apple". Previously the car had been referred to as the yellow peril or banana boat which never really seemed to fit. I love the name "Vaal" because when Vaal is well fed, the sun shines and life is glorious. When Vaal ain't happy, ain't nobody happy.
In the Star Trek show, Kirk destroyed Vaal in order for the idyllic natives to be able to get on with their lifes. There might be a lot of truth in that.

In high school, my father was still paying for me to get hair cuts. At the time my hair was REALLY kinky, so much that I had someone tell me "hey dood, do you know your hair looks like pubes?"
Well I was over my friends house needing a hair cut very bad, and we were going to the mall and he said "Come on frodaddy, lets go." I said, "frodaddy?" He said, "Yea, I'm calling you frodaddy from now on since you got a fro."
I was BIG into video games at the time, and we would go to the mall arcades to play Killer Instinct. I was very good at the game, so when I would beat one of the records I put the name "FRO" in. The reaction I got was overwhelming with the local guys going "who's fro?!" and they thought it was wierd/cool once they found out.
Then I started playing Duke Nukem 3d with a friend modem to modem and used the name FroDaddy. He liked it too..
Finally, I started using the name FroDaddy when playing Quake and I constantly got compliments there too. In Quake1 there was a team that named themselves GI Joe, and true to the comic their battle cry was "YOO JOEE!" Since I played with them often, I started "yoo froo!!" as my own battle cry in the online game and it became very popular with the people I played with.
I would be in mIRC chatting and would have people tell me that my name was one of the most interesting "handles" (we called them nicks after nickname) they've seen online. They were even comparing my name to the greats of the Quake community because their names were very interesting as well. Just a few months ago is when I quit playing the Quake series with Quake3. Up until that point when I left (almost 4 years since I started playing), I still was known for my nick and my battle cry.
I've always used FroDaddy as my handle and it seems like I get great feedback from using it, so I have kept using it since I started Killer Instinct almost 7 years ago. I don't have an afro anymore but it is still my online identity. Thanks for listening! :seeya
Very uncreative. Back when I first got on the net in '93 I need a username, david davidd etc was taken, and for some reason my mom suggested ddn. It stuck for me as the more "proper" nickname. My IRC nick for a long time has been Dillsmack, from when someone's older brother called me Della-Dillsmack, what cna I say, it stuck. The nickname my friends call me is Guido =)
I play an Ibanez guitars through Marshall amps turned up loud enough to feel the noise. Like FroDaddy I had to have a handle for my online gaming. I started playing Quake CTF online at MPlayer.com in 1996 and used RocknWood cause I didn't think SteveWood was a cool enough handle. I progressed to playing TeamFortress on MPlayer and nobody was letting me join their clan cause I was a newbie. Well, I decided to create my own clan so I called it Rockn. Everyone had to have their name begin with Rockn-. Since I was the leader I figured I should be Rockn-Roll and I've been that ever since including being known for work I did at Gamespy and PlanetQuake running the deathmatch and clan database; and, running game servers called Rockn-Server.
My name is Herschel Barfield, but all my life I have been called Hershey or Hershey Bar. I ran a parts store here on town for six years and there are lots of people that still don't know that Hershey isn't my name. It si easy for people to remember and besides, I like it . Hershey!! :D :chevy
I grew up in the generation that watched the Lone Ranger on sat morning .Always at the end of the show he said HiYo silver away .My 73 cpe is originaly silver but just repainted 2001 quicksilver so since im always leaving somewhere it fit .HIYOSILVER away. :blueangel:

No. I grew-up down in the 'burbs'. That was at Rinke's, just a mile south of GM Tech Center in Warren. I then moved to the Chevy dealer, where I really got involved in vettes. Ah, the fun memories...
Well, I am or was a big "Dale Earnhardt" fan. My car is painted black over silver :D When I installed the 454 Big Block a friend said that it was very intimidating

Cruzmeister
I can attest to the appropriateness of his handle. I'm on his mailing list and he e-mails me every show, cruise, benefit, parts swap, flea market, county fair, fund raiser dog and **** fight on the east coast!
It's been quite Cruz! Have you been heibernating already?
I managed about 10 this year usually dragging the family kicking and screaming.
Mine came from one of the guys I used to work with. I was working in a warehouse and we were all assigned different areas to stock. One day I came in and the room I was stocking had Rocket Ron writtin on the wall above the door.I use the name because it brings back memories of good times we all had.
The Rocket came from the fact that I used to drive everwhere in my 75 L82 coupe as fast as possible, and I had the tickets to prove it.
