Doing it yourself is quite easy if you are so inclined. If so, get a copy of Doug Roe's book "Rochester Carburetors". I did one of mine and it turned out great and I know very little about carbs.

Yes, i guess I could give it a try if I can get some step by step instructions. I'll check out that book. Thanks
I'll pipe in before someone else does...Corvette Forum user Lars is the resident Q-Jet expert and does this work via mail order. I personally haven't sent him mine (as we spoke and determined that it may be too messed up to bother) but many others on the forum have and have, apparently, been quite pleased.
That's probably your best alternative if you're not up to it yourself. Send Lars a note, he has a service sheet explaining all of the work he does.
Contact Lars to get his quote....then just send him your carb. His charge is very reasonable for getting your existing carb into superb condition. You won't be sorry.
I agree with using Lars. His prices are very reasonable and backs up his service. On mine besides the normal rebuild he had to install custom rods for my application that were not available elswhere. Not sure you would get that from just a normal rebuild.

$160 base price & then his actual costs for parts. I used his services this past Fall and his pricing, communication, service, speed were all outstanding. This was by far the easiest mod/tune-up that I have done to my car for such a small price to pay.

Thanks for the info. BTW are you going up to Kissimmee this year?
Trying to get there...car is 99% back together finally. Got side tracked on the "while I am at it" kind of projects but all is looking much better. I was there last year and had Al Knoch install the cloth top. I should be there unless something major comes up. I will hit ya with a PM on what day I will be going when the time gets closer.

Actually, the base price includes the basic rebuild parts. I charge cost for additional parts needed above and beyond the basic rebuild parts (i.e. to replace missing/damaged pieces, jetting components, etc.).
I had paid 2 years ago when I bought my car to have the carb dyno tuned by a shop that provided me a dyno sheet with AF ratio afterwards. Well...I was still not 100% sure of what they did, did not know the complete history of my carb, and felt for the price that Lars charges it was best to send the carb to Lars for a look. Lars was so kind to tell me that the $200 I spent 2 years ago went to nothing as the shop never did anything to my carb...it had never been opened up, jets never changed, nothing....so all they did was put the car on the dyno...saw that it ran good and within some reasonable specs and charged me $200 saying they changed the jets & rods. Good news from all this was that I had a relatively unmolested carb for Lars to work his magic from.
I am currently negotiating to buy an original carb for my car and intend to send it Lars for rebuild if the deal goes through. Lars advised that he does not do cosmetic work. Any recommendations please.
Sorry to barge in on the thread.
