Default Help, Need a frame dimension

our 79 had a run in with a curb one morning last week, street was damp from morning fog. spun and hit the curb in an intersection, had to have it towed home. bent the lower a arm, spindle, steering knuckle. after disassembly i noticed the lower left a arm frame brackets were bent and torn from the cross member. i had to cut the welds and grind down the area smooth, i have new brackets ordered. but i need to know how to locate them. the front part of the lower one is easy with the 2 holes, its the rear bracket, i need some kind of dimension to locate where it goes. i am using the old lower cross shaft to locate the bracket front to rear, but the rear part side to side dimension is needed, either center to center on the bolts from Lside to Rside or from the frame. can anyone measure theirs, or know this. help d.r.

The dimensions are listed in the Service Manual under Frame. PG.

Hate to say it, but there are no references in that manual for the location of the upper A-arm bracket.

Does this help at all?
Hooked to the channel at the end, 14 1/2" to the other side.

A double check would be 17 1/8" center of the lower mounting bolt to center of bolt on the other side.
If I can take any other measurements, let me know. My 79 is up on the lift.

edit. in the lower pic, the bolt above my hand is 16" on center to the other side, both front and rear.

Hey Kaps,

Could you grab a center to center over the big hole in the frame?

I'm fighting similar issues, as something wonky is going on in the dimension department.

Also, any of you guys know where the stamped piece that makes up the rear lower control arm mount? Not the C channel but the bit that is visible from the top, that tears loose.

The shafts that the lower control arms attach to are 16" on center from each other. Measured at the bushing bolts front and rear.

That's welded to the channel that I took the first measurement from, so I would imagine it's kinda mounted so all the edges can be adequately welded.

Thanks guys.

Yeah, the wedge shaped bit is welded to the frame and channel. Mine had pulled loose sometime in its past, and the person that welded it up burned a few pounds of stick, to get it stuck back on.

I'd like to go back with the stock piece, but haven't found one yet! (Its the lower drivers side that I'm needing if anyones got a wreck!)
