I have a built Pontiac 400 engine with 2500 miles on it. The person who built the engine put a new Edelbrock 1406 carb on an Edelbrock Performer intake. I purchased the car, a '72 Le Mans, on Wednesday and drove it home from Portland to Seattle. The only thing I didn't like about the driving experience was the transition from about 2/3 to full throttle. It seems like there is no transition - it goes from 2/3 throttle to immediately all the way open. Is this a characteristic of the 1406 or does it just need tuning? This is my first experience with the AFB design.
And to keep this Corvette related... I replaced the original Quadrajet from my '71 Roadster with an Edelbrock Q jet because it had stripped fuel inlet threads. One option would be to have the threads fixed on the original Quadrajet, put back on the Corvette and then use the QJ that's on the Corvette now on the Pontiac.

I might even have a correct Pontiac Q-Jet (the Pontiac Q-Jets have the inlet on the front instead of on the passenger side). I'll have to go rummage through the carb shed.
One ton of beer for a carb rebuild...? That may be a good deal... let's see... a single beer weights roughly a pound. Two thousand pounds in a ton... that's about 2,000 beers. Okay... I'll do it!
If the Pontiac carb shows up, count me in. Then I can use a proper fuel line and get rid of the rubber "fire waiting to happen" section of line. If it doesn't turn up I can send the Qjet I have for repair. I may have been exaggerating a little when I said I have a ton, so I would probably have to pay with US dollars.
I can fix the threads for you. Dump the AFB and put Q-Jets on both cars.
i like the q-jet also. on a side note, i'm not sure you can even get a dual plane square bore intake for a pontiac anyway. unless its an old 20 years out of production street dominator or P4B.

Why dump the AFB? I have the same set up on a 65 Corvette I recently bought. I've been thinking about replacing it with the original Holley. Would the Holley work with the Edelbrock performer intake?

GM dumped the AFB after the 1966 model year because it was obsolete. There were good reasons for doing so in favor of the Q-Jet. A Q-Jet will vastly out-perform an AFB on a 400 Pontiac - it's no contest. If he had a '65 389 GTO, the AFB (aka Edelbrock "Performer") would look correct, and might be well suited. The 400 doesn't look right, nor does it perform right, with the AFB.
If you are an ethical person, throw the AFB in the garbage can. If you aren't, then clean it up and put it on eBay. There's always some sucker who wants one!
