I have a 73 and changed the seats to 80's...I want to remove the old behind retractors and install a one peace seatbelt that can attach to the side post. Any ideas on how well this will work and what type to use. I ask because I just don't see any room for the retractor.
Do you mean a standard single retractor seat belt system where the lower tab bolts to the floor just beside the back of the seat, the turnbuckle bolts to the sail panel, and the buckle pulls across the occupant to the receiver?
If not, do you mean you want a single lap only retractor?
I installed a system like above in mine. $90 off of Ebay, some buckles to match my seats, and some custom mounting plates in the wheel wells.
With your 73 not having the mounts in the sail panels will make the change harder. Maybe 74 and newer parts will fit but you will need the trim also. This job could require welding in the 74 parts in the sail panel.
Did you ever figure out how to route the belt over your shoulder or link to the top of your 80 seats? I've got a vert and just did this install but am looking for a solution to attach/route the belts along the top of the seats.
