Default Machine Shop Reading PA

I'm getting ready to do a full rebuild on my 73 engine. Not interested in a crate motor. The car is mostly driven for pleasure on sunny days and to car shows. I need a reliable engine machine shop somewhere near Reading, PA. I'll travel several hours if necessary to get a well trusted shop. Any ideas? Thanks, Dean

I'm sure there is a good one closer but I have had 5 motors machined by Withers automotive and the motors have been bullit proof. He does top notch work. Decent price and does it on time. The shop is not much to look at the the quality of work is second to none. You should be able to find one in the Reading area though.

..... getting competent machine-work done in Reading shouldn't be a problem (although I don't personally know of any ):
with one of the best drag-strips in the country in your backyard in Maple Grove Raceway, plenty of gear-heads get their work done close-by.

Ask Jay Stoudt who does their engine work.

The best machine shop that I no of is this place.

Jensen Engine Machine
442 Berwick-Hazleton HWY
Route 93
Nescopeck, Pa 18635
570-379-3069

This place is about 10 miles off of route 81 at the West Hazleton exit.

He is a Corvette owner and this is where all the motor heads go to get their engines done.

Dean:
Have no shops to recommend but seems Jenson should be good.

What I want to express is support for your plan to rebuild your motor & first seeking out a good machine shop.

It's refreshing to see your approach here ... when so many can't even seem to choose which crate to buy from sellers that're several states away

Best o' luck!

Thanks for all the replies. I'm going to call Jensen's this week. A corvette race owned machine shop would be hard to beat. I'm sure they'll understand my desire to add a few HP wile maintaining an entirely stock appearance.

My engine is being done by Howards Machine shop (Wilkes-Barre Pa). He does most of the engines for the local race teams as well as Mcglynn racing (former Nextel Cup team with Dereck Cope the driver)

Default Machine Shop Follow Up

I dropped the block at Jensen's in Nescopeck last weekend. Andy was friendly and the shop was very clean. He took the time to talk in detail about the work Nice to work with a Corvette guy. He instantly understood my desire not to have the block decked! I'll get the block back in a couple of weeks. Based on my experience so far it was well worth the 90 minute drive to use. More to follow after I get the block back. Now I just have to get my carb to Lars!
