ive got a 70 vette manual and iv been trying to put the centre console in. It seems like every way i try to install it there is something i cant get at to bolt up.I was just wondering if there is anyone with experience who can help me step through this problem?
ok ive got all the wires connected and all i need to do is put the faceplate on, but it seems nearly impossible. Have i gone down the right path or no...
I have some of the floor stuff, but need to know how to glue it up!

Spray adhesive is your friend. I don't know about dymat, but the Cool-It I used had one shiny side & one adhesives side. I used metal foil tape (HVAC tape) on all the seams. Used spray adhesive to tack the carpet to the Cool-It.
Do you have an AIM to guide you? It helps. Still, I had the AIM by my side and it still took me a few evenings getting everything to fit properly. Be patient. They really managed to fit 10 lbs of crap in a 5 lb bag with the C3 console design. I will dread the day I have to go back in and fix something in my console.
I have a '70 and have done this a few times. Not sure what you are saying but I think you can't move the console forward enough to match
all holes & the parking brake. Double check to make sure the center
bezel is where it should be - some break and fall down. Tighten all screws on the center bezel. Then, the U bracket support for the front
and radio might be bent - check to make sure it is in the correct position.
ok yeah to be more clear, the center console wont go forward enough because the radio and left/right dash is there, I might be missing this bracket you speak of because i have notices there are two clips on each of the dash panels and the bottoms of the panels kind of move away from the radio.
I'm talking about the Front Console Reinforcement "bracket" - it has
two slot holes in the top so that the center bezel fits in - if this
"bracket' is missing/lower-higher than it should be then that's the problem. I don't have pixs but see some online catalogs for the part
I'm refering to.
Should be the same - lots of different names for the same thing -- it
is about the same width of the bezel because it fits under the bezel
and connects to the floor/tunnel with sides about 4-5" long. If we are
talking about the same thing and I think we are to me this is the key to
getting everything put together. Might want to use the search function
to find good pixs - interior pictures, center bezel pictures, etc - that
type of search and you should see it easily.
Just did this. If you have not already done so, install the driver side lower dash first, then the gauge cluster, then the right side lower dash. This lower part of these 3 will typically be 1 - 2 inches too far back. I install the shifter console, by tilting it forward and connecting the air vent, a/c heater, controls, & fiber optic stuff. Then lay it down into position. It will look like everything is cool until you try to put the console cover over the parking brake and you will discover that everthing needs to be shoved forward. Thats exactly what I do. You have to be reasonable about the amount of pressure you apply so you dont break anything. If it wont budge, then it could be hanging up because the radio is pushing on the heater control cable or vacuum hoses, or the speedo/tach cluster is not going forward enough because you have the harness in the wrong spot.
I think this is the part the other poster was talking about:
This is what I just did last weekend to a black/red 400 convertible:
