Try Summit and Jegs. There's nothing magical about an 82, it's a regular ol' Chebby 350. Only thing special you'll have to do is either port the CFI manifold and reprogram the computer or move to a carb.

Summit and Jegs both sell upgrade kits with things like cams and heads.

I'm sure you'll have plenty of suggestions before long, too.

Intake, exhaust, heads.

That'll eat up all of your budget and is probably the best seat o' the pants improvement you'll be able to get. Best of all, it's all bolt on and you won't have to pull the engine to do your cam.

*not to mention that you really want to do your heads before your cam*

Summit's where I go (since they have most everything I could possibly want). Otherwise look at the manufacturers sites and call their tech lines for advice. AFR, Holley, Edelbrock, Dart, etc.

Alright, so you have an 82, presumably stock, and a budget of $1500.

Do you live in a place where smog laws apply?
Do you want to keep your FI?
What will you be using the car for?

Answer these questions and I'll dig some stuff up for ya.

Fill out your profile to show your approximate geographic location ... at minimum show your state/province/canton ... we don't need to know or care what your street address is ... do it & you'll get better advice now and in future.

Doug Herbert, Scoggin Dickey, ebay ... just know that most don't accept returns if you order the wrong thing ... even if they do, returns will cost you.

Search his site & also google net for info on how to upgrade crossfire injection. But First know what mods your specific locale's vehicle emissions laws/regs will allow you to get away with ... always know that first. Some places are very restrictive, some not at all.

Best tip I can give is join a local Corvette club. Those guys will give you all kinds of help and may even buy the cold drinks. Worked for me. Be careful, I invited them over one day and they pulled the whole engine and trans and left it in the floor. I hope they come back some day..

Search for a guy named Dominic Sorresso or something like this. He "was" a crossfire god in some eyes.

400 HP for-under $1500 is a tall-order if you'd be starting with an L-82 :
I'd think using the CFI and expecting those figures is like tinkling into the wind.....

It's going to be tough to get 400hp with $1500 and a CFI.

It won't add any hp but will liven up you 82 if you change your gearing to 3:54's. That can be done for under 1k. As far as mods for you 82 your pretty limited with you stock computer. I'll give you a few ideas if your not into the gear change but with the stock gearing your not going to feel a whole lot off the line.

Porting you intake is a big help. The only aftermarket intake that is available for the CFI is the X-Ram, but it seems to work best with highly modified motors.

Cam, because the 82 ecm is so slow you pretty limited to cam choice. Crane has some comp friendly cams like the 2030, 2040 (those are old part #'s) check the crane site for current #'s. The 2030 is probally your best bet if you keep your stock gearing.

Heads, the dart ss are a good set of street heads and not very expensive. I beleive they are in teh $600 range for the pair.

Headers, I've never used them but alot of the 82 guys love Stan's Tri-Y's.

Then there's always NOS
