My 4-speed is stuck in reverse. I was a couple blocks from home and all of a sudden, the shifter would not go into second gear. It would shift into 1st, 3rd, and 4th okay, but not second. When I got home, I got it into reverse with some difficulty, and now it won't come out. It has a hurst shifter, and the reverse interlock and reverse lights are disabled. I am hoping something came loose externally on the linkage, but I haven't looked under the car yet (It is dark in the garage and a bone-chilling 55 degrees out there.) Any ideas? Thanks all.
Happened to my Muncie once years ago but had no Hurst. Just a hunch, could be the linkage is messed up like mine was. Had to crawl underneath (luckily it was summer) and get dirty moving the linkage by hand. Hope this helps--no fun in the winter and driving in reverse doesn't go well unless your back-up lites are bright.

You need to put all of your arms on the tranny in neutral position the arms all have a bolt holding them to the case make sure these are all tight my 74 did that a few times I had a M-22 my 1st.and 2nd arm would get loose and that was the problem
Had a similar thing happen on mine and it turned out the shift ever itself had come loose to the point it wasn't moving the linkage. Look under the shift boot and make sure everything is tight there.
I love simple (cheap) fixes. It was indeed the 1-2 shift lever on the side of the tranny. The bolt was loose, so a little lock-tite and a rachet was all it took. Problem solved----Thanks, Guys!!!
