Unfortunately, "almost perfect" is not good enough in the case of the wiper door. Those screw threads have to be exactly aligned for that gizmo to operate cleanly. Now, the door may still be salvageable. Look at the bored ends of the threaded holes toward the outside-ends of the door. Originally, those were alignment counter-bores which were used to pilot the roughing drill and tapping operations. If your recent 'repair' drilling DID NOT damage those counter-bores, you can still fix your door. If this discussion is of interest to you, send me a PM and I can detail the steps to get your door working correctly again.

You could try and elongate the holes in the grille to give you more adjustment to get a better fit. That is what I ended up doing, and it worked perfectly. For what it is worth, when I removed my wiper door, all 4 bolts snapped, and I just drilled them out and then installed 1/4-20 heli-coils and used 1/4-20 bolts to install the door, and I did this without using any special kind of "jig" for the door, and it all worked out no problem.

That is a good deal for you, but you were lucky. For every 100 doors repaired by "drill and tap", 99 don't make it. They can be salvaged, however, if the pilot holes are still undamaged.

I`m interested too! I took mine off 30 some years ago and broke one of the shouldered bolts. Well it is finally back together waiting to re-installt the fuel tank so I can get some engine vacuum to hopefully operate the wiper door again.

Just some of the "joys" to owning a C3. {It keeps us out of trouble, anyway,}

I think the wiper door is the 'coolest' part and the 'cruelest' part of the car. It drove me crazy in a wonderful way.
