I was told by another forum member that my car came with the rally sport package. What does that mean? I figured it came originally with the rally sport wheels, but is that all? Is there a different suspension, or is does it just mean that it has the rally wheels? Here is a copy of my build sheet. Please enlighten me. Thanks
I am not sure what he might have been referring to. There was a suspension option FE7 - Gymkhana Suspension but that does not appear on your build sheet. Your car came with the standard rally wheels as option N90 is not on your sheet.
There is no such thing as a "rally sport option" for your car. The other member was in error. In fact the rally wheels which your car originally came with are the base model wheels. Your car was optioned with the 255/60R15 tires versus the base 225/70R15, however, and of course you have the L82 with 225hp versus the base L48 with 195hp. So this may have made the other member think it was a special package. But they also made 53,807 Corvettes in 1979, the most of any year Vette, so they are not rare. Pinstripes not included however
In addition to the link that Binnie77 posted, I highly recommend the Corvette Black Book by Mike Antonick. It is updated every year and answers almost all common questions, and is a lot of fun to read, and fits in your pocket so you can take along to shows.
Well fellows, I didn't make all this up. I went to N.A.D.A. to get market value for this car, and it list the rally sport option as one of the option's for this car. Perhaps nada don't know what they are talking about, since they seem to over price everything anyway. If there are any ex-corvette builders on this site or GM employee's that may know for sure, I would appreciate your input. I don't want to misrepresent the car as being something it's not. Thanks..

According to this link that Binnie77 listed, there was 53,807 Corvette Sport Coupe's built in 79 but, only 14,516 L82's. Hopefully that will make this one worth some bucks one day. One can only dream....

NADA also lists 4 and 6 cylinder engines for 79 corvettes. Good luck finding one of those. You don't need a GM employee. There is no such thing as a rally sport option for corvette.

Out of the 53,807 vettes made that year, only 14,516 were L82 models. So, taking into consideration the ones that have been wrecked, crushed, and sent to the grave yard, these particular cars ARE a bit rare, and will only go up in value..
