I agree. I don't like Vettes that sit too high, or where there is more than the thickness of the sidewall between the tire and the fender. Yuck.

I don't think there's bad springs out there. I think it's mostly installation set up. I've used VBP and TRW without any problems.

Two points of view and they are probably both correct to some degree. Remember only junk is cheap, quality never is.

I like a bit of clearance, just to be sure my tires don't ever hit the glass body. But I run 295X50 tires all around also.

I have the vbp 550's up front and the 7 leaf in the rear. Although the front springs should be shorter than normal and I used the longer spring bolt al the way in the rear, the car sits at standard ride heigth. There is no explanation whatsoever except that the arch of the rear spring is bigger.

I have a fiberglass spring and the 550's from VBP. The rear height was adjusted to make the 1/2 shafts parallel to the ground. The 550 springs put the nose up about 3 inches. The coils were cut to lower the front to make the car level. The leveling of the car was done by Dick Guldstrand Motorsports. I think when you use aftermarket or specialty springs, you need to be prepared to make adjustments to make them fit properly.

I just installed a new VB&P kit in my car, it now sits exactly 1" higher in the rear than it did before. It only has a couple of gallons of gas in it, (I swapped the tank). I figure the old steel spring and shocks were wore out. I know the shocks were, when I collapsed them they wouldnt return at all. The only thing I am looking at now is the halfshaft angle, I still have a slightly downward trend around 20 degrees or so towards the tires. Other than that it looks good but I havent had a chance to drive it yet.

I agree with the height issue, but for me it really boiled down to getting those half shafts to sit level when my fat butt is in there with a full tank of gas. Longer bolts did it for me (just adjusted them again). Turned out the fender clearence looked good as well. Spring tension is an interesting topic since they need to squat a little to keep them wheels from hopping when you mash the go pedal.

The Chassis Service Manual spec calls for 27.9 inches from the center bottom (high point) of the rear fender lip to the road surface. Remember this was for a 70 series tire. It looks about right for a 60 series tire, too, in the 245 or 255 width.
Regards,
Alan

I did the measurement as stated above a couple of months ago with the stock setup, worn out body mounts and dead shocks and it was 29". It now sits at about 30" with new shocks, spring and body mounts. If I take it down anymore (I have 2" of bolt left) the bushings are no longer in contact with the spring. I dont think I can get to 28" unless a full tank of gas and my fat butt are in it. Running 255 tires/
