Default LS1 Conversion update

I finally got some time to get the fuel sytem finished. I chose to use the 4th Gen F-Body LS1 fuel pump for this conversion. It's quiet, durable and a proven Delphi pump. I prefer intank over external pumps. It also has a built-in fuel regulator , so there's no need for a return line. The assembly has a built in bucket around the pump to contain fuel during fuel shushing. "Autocrossing" The assembly is easily available.

I cut a 3.875" hole in the tank. Used 11 AWG sheet metal to fab up the a anchor brackets cut out with a Plasma gun. Mig welded the lower bracket and used 4- 1/4" 28 studs to clamp the top bracket to sandwiched the 4th Gen LS1 Pump. I used the OE pump rubber gasket to seal the pump to the gas tank.

If there's interest, we will laser machine the brackets and sell as a kit for 68-74 fuel tanks. The fuel pump assembly has about 1" height adjustability. These set up works very well.

looks great....I hope to be doing this swap also soon. I saw your website a few weeks ago and have been hoping to see more progress. I definitely might be interested in your fuel pump setup to make things a little easier for my install (less fabrication & scratching head trying to figure this all out)

carpedm - The pump sits deep into the tank. The sock is at the bottom. I'm still using the original sending unit. I can laser the parts and have a template for the hole placement. You can buy these pumps on eBay all day. If you do get a pump , try to have them send you the electrical connectors and fuel fittings. Wreckers are good about it.

PatsLs1vette-Thank for the complement. I'm not too keen on the clamp on the 3/8" line. I'll work it out.

I did not want to say anything but the rest looks top notch. The hose clamp with frayed line does not.

Nice setup. If I ever go FI this is a nice setup.

BTW, The Shark Bar is next in line for projects. Just finishing up some front end work. I'll keep you posted. The packaging on the bar was incredible and all parts were labeled as to where it goes. You really out do yourself on that.

Dale,
I'm going to go ahead and laser machine a few. I believe the hot rod crowd might be interested as well. GM still sells the rubber gasket.

I will fire-up the Beast this week-end, if time permits , then tear into the top end of the LS1 to change the cam, lifters, springs along with some other goodies.
Here are the Cam profiles I'll be using:
COMP CAMS
Duration @ .050 234 Intake, 238 Exhaust
Lode separation 115
Gross Valve lift: Intake .598 Exhaust .605
I will be installing a 3500 stall converter.

Gary68- Thanks, I did just that.

Eddie 70, Markdtn and SuprJames- thanks for the compliments.

Eddie- I saw some pics of your engine, WOW Very nice.
Did you change cams? If so, what did you go with?

I'm very impressed with the LS1 conversions out there.

Gordonm-Get that Sharkbar installed, so you can make us C3'er proud out on the Autocross. Let me know if the struts need more adjustment.
Thanks,
Dan

What are you using for exhaust - C6 exhaust manifolds or headers? I'm leaning hard toward an LS 427, that's one of the obstacles. You provided the solution to another, thank you very much!!!

I currently going with the stock C5 LS1 exhaust manifolds. I welded the air injection holes and ceramic coated them. My budget is tight.
It would be awesome if you went with a LS6 power plant.

Durn, "Missed it by THAT much" for my '75.
I assume the tanks are fundamentally different?

It will work if you don't have a rubber bladder.

The Northwest has a lot of challenging trails, but watch out for the environmentalists. They get mad when you disturb their weeds, whether it's smokable or not.
