Most people can not add oil to a fan clutch. They are less than $50 at Autozone or Pep Boys so why even jack with it?

Fred Oliva can rebuild them but you have to pay 2-3 times as much and wait a year or longer so that isn't usualy an option for most of us.

First, do you know that it's defective? To test it, get the engine hot enough for the fan to be 'activated'. Then pull the car off the road and pop the hood (engine still running). While watching the fan, turn the engine OFF. If the thermostatic fan is working properly, the fan should not make more than a couple of revolutions before stopping. If it keeps turning, the oil/valve system in the fan is defective. Putting different 'oil' in it will not help it to work properly. My guess is that you don't know that much about the fan [or how to fix it], or you wouldn't be asking us. Buy a replacement, if you need one.

Paragon Corvette Reproductions will rebuild Fan Clutches too. Just buy a new one if it's not a NCRS Vette (save the old one if its original.)

I've always heard that fan clutches should be stored standing up, as if installed on a car or it may be ruined. That may be an old "mechanics tale" come to think of it, the new ones on the shelf at the parts store are not stored standing up, or are they?
