Default Paint prep question

I am going to repaint my "center grill" from my '72 and have knocked all of what was left of the paint on it with a brass brush.

What is the correct primer for this piece?

HELP

Default Paint

A good etch primer or 2 part epoxy should do the trick.

The primer is dependent on the paint you choose. I found that the best match [for color and texture] to original...without being overly ****....was a "cast iron" color spray paint found at a neighborhood auto parts store. The brand chosen should have a recommended type of primer called out in its instructions. The keys to getting the paint to stay are as follows: clean the surface to be painted WELL by using a solvent to clean the metal, then soap and water, rinse and dry completely; spray the primer per instructions and put on the final color coat as required by instructions or within 30 minutes of primer so that it will bond with the primer as it cures; then let the final product dry for several days before you handle the parts.
