Default another steering column question

Is there a way to take the "horn contact retainer" off without breaking it?It is the plastic piece covering the lockplate retainer "C" clip.I have broken mine and have the replacement ready but I need to go back into this column again in the future to replace the Cruise Control Lever and maybe other parts might be missing when I get that far.I don't want to put it back and then break another one noty too far in the future as they cost about $20 just for this one part when you add shipping. One website that sells these parts said "it breaks every time" you remove it.This is my second C3 but the first one that I've tried to repair/restore and need all the help I can get. Thanks ahead of time.captna

This is probably true when you remove one that's many years old. If you recently replaced it, you should have no problem taking it off without breaking it. I had to "borrow" the one off my 76 steering column to replace one I broke when taking apart my 89's column. It was on the 76 for about a year, and I had no problem gently prying it off with no breakage.

Thanks for the reply,I'll go ahead and put it back together and see if I can find the right lever for the cruise control as someone put a standard plain turn signal lever instead of the original cruise control type.It came with cruise control and I don't know where to find the lever for a 1978 L82 yet.
