Default engine blk # doesnt make sense

i have a 79 L82 corvette, i know the engine has been replaced sometime in the past, we installed new bearings and rear seal in the engine and the old bearings had GM 81, i'm assuming 1981,it was a 4 bolt main, anyway, the pad at front of engine only has one
# VA 252800, block casting # on rear is 14016379, can any one decifer these. i just found my carb # 17059216 carter, it fits a 305-350 camaro w/ac, it runs, starts, idles fine, what a mix match of parts. thanks for any help.

well, the date on the back of the main bearings indicates that someone changed the bearings sometime around 81. i still dont know about the number on the pad at the front of the block, it only has that one number # VA252800, nothing else.

If your car is an L-82, the ID pad on your engine block at the front should have one of the following prefixes

ZBA - Four Speed
ZBB - Automatic

If you have a VA--------, it's not a Corvette motor. '79-82's all had a three-apha code starting with a Z.

Hope this helps.

You can check engine casting numbers on our web site just by entering the number in the search box.

You can do the same with engine ID codes, axle codes, Head, Intake, exhaust manifold casting numbers, alternator numbers, starters and coils.

We're not done adding to the list but should have all of them real soon.

The engine casting number you have was used in Late 1979.

**1979**
