Default Front Clip Attachment

I know there are probably lots of other threads on this subject and I have looked, but I need a strait answer from one of you experts. I have an Ecklers complete front clip that I want to put on a 78 body. What type of bonding adhesive do I use? I have looked at Ecklers bonding adhesive and there are stipulations on its use. The clip is plain fiberglass I think, but it is attaching to the 78 body, what to use? Also if anyone knows what would I use to attach the inner fenders to the front clip? Thanks for the help!

I recently installed the front clip on my 68 and a few guys on the forum recommended Fusor products for bonding the parts on . It is expensive and you will need the special caulking gun to apply it. It is a two part adhesive that mixes together as it comes out of the gun tip. It gives you about 55 minutes working time and has a great holding strength. As for the inner fenders, make sure you have them positioned right before bonding. If they are too far forward or too far to the rear, your hood will not be positioned right since the hood bolts to the inner fenders. My one side was off by about 1/8 of an inch and i had to break it loose and re- bond.

For the best adhesion, you'll want to use an epoxy adhesive like the Lord Fusor since the '78 is made from SMC while the replacement clip is polyester resin based fiberglass. Are these the original inners, if so, then you'll need to use epoxy as well. If they are reproduction, they can be bonded with the same epoxy adhesive or a cheaper polyester based "Vette panel adhesive".

Where did you buy the Fusor adhesive and do you remember the exact product name? Thanks for your help!

Make sure you put your hood on first. Then line up the front clip. Remember you can make your hood sit higher but you can't get it to sit lower.

Your local body shop supply should have a selection of adhesives, Lord, em Automix, Duramix, Evercoat Universal epoxy etc. My local shop has loaner guns for all the adhesive brands they sell.
