I'm looking to do the same so I measured (with clay) the "stock" clearance on my 71 and it's 1.75" with the 1/4 carb gaskit. I want to use this setup which should maybe clear:
there is the playdough trick, put a wad of playdough on top of your air cleaner, close your hood, and measure how thick it is after it has been crushed.
you can find an airfilter that drops down around the carb to help with clearance problems. What I had to do on my 78 with an edelbrock intake. Gave me just enough clearance to make it work.
I have the motor out at the time . So thats why I'm asking for advice. Also I'm looking to find info on GM manifold heights,for part#14096011 and 10185063
