IMHO, I'd just replace the dizzy with an MSD Digital E-Curve unit, which includes a rev limiting function, and consider an MSD-6 series box as an optional add on.
I ran a Crane HI6 box with my stock Distributer for a couple of years. The points just trigger the box. It is a digital box and has rotary dials for the rev limiter. I have bounced it off the limiter many times. I once set it at 4000 rpm just to see how good it worked. I stood on it in 2nd gear and just left it there. It never went over 4000 rpm. I still use the Crane box but I have a MSD dist. now. Still use the Crane box for a limiter.
Is there a module that can be added to an HEI distributor to give rpm limit control? I have a mechanical tach drive HEI dizzy (from Mid-America) on the new stroker, and shudder at the thought of not having any limit control other than valve bounce..... http://www.mamotorworks.com/corvette?frame=4.1166

I have the e-curve with a 6a box. The E-curve is great just get it to have the timing always be at 20 or 25 fire it up set you timing at idle to what you want your total to be and then set the distributor to the curve you want and your done with your timing. It is always there and you can have the advance come in sooner or later on different curves depending on your setup. It will not let you go past your set rev limiter it just makes a noise you will never forget if you have a throaty exhaust system. Never really knew how much I would go over it until I got the dizzy. When your tires are spinning the revs go up fast.
I know people using it and they had no issues with it so far..
I personally use the MSD 6AL on my race car.. I used a ProComp distributor (HEI) when I had my old 406 engine dynoed (after I rebuilt it) and it worked flawless..

I use a Crane HI-6 multispark CD with the stock HP points and stock coil used as a trigger on my 69 Camaro. This setup does not misfire to well over the self imposed 7200 RPM red line I have it set at. The points do not carry the load when used in this manner so they will last a long time and no need to set any dwell angle with them set up this way. The box takes care of that for you. I have the box mounted hiden up uder the dash so it does not show. Works great.
This is also good for a "Valet" setting on the rev limiter. You can set it with a small screwdriver for say 3000 RPM and it will not go any higher. Good for when your car is at the body shop for an extended stay or for when your son wants to take it to the prom etc.
I'll also add a recommendation for the Crane HI-6. I prefer it to the MSD that is comparably priced because the Crane has an adjustable dial for the rev limiter and the MSD has pills you have to switch out.
