Default Holley Projection TBI

Hey guys looking for anyone who is running the 670cfm Holley Projection TBI setup. just ordered the kit for my '74, very excited!! a few questions...

1. where did you mount the ecu and how did you run the wiring to it? (ie drilling through firewall or other)

2. i am considering getting a sump welded onto the bottom of the tank (repro, new) because i have a bad tendency of squezzing every bit out of a tank of gas do you think this is the best solution?

Thanks a lot guys! can't wait to see that mpg shoot up!

Behind the map pocket is a good spot. You can run the harness out through the firewall just above the heater box.

Yeah, a sump is a very good idea. And weld a fitting for the return at the top of the tank. You don't want the return too close to the feed as you'll circulate ever warmer fuel around. Use the tank as a heat sink.

excellent, thanks so much for the info. now, my 74 vette has a return line that is stock. It feeds back into the tank from the top passenger side corner. will this be sufficient for the FI return line or do I need to get an additional bung welded on and run a new line?

Thanks!

The factory return line is 1/4" which is on the small side but may be enough for TBI. I have MPFI running at 43PSI and ran a new 3/8" return to be on the safe side.

Holley ProJection 2BRL on FAST81

ECU lives in storage compartment opposite the battery (behind the seats)

had to run a new return line as the factory return line diameter was too small. Rad shop welded a new, larger return pipe on sending unit.
BTW this exercise validated a question i long had about the C3................why the friggin whopper gas door (so even an idiot like me can get the top mounted fuel inlet/return out without dropping the gas tank)

Me two. But with the Holley 950 TBI. I had to extend the TBI harness two feet, but the storage compartment behind the passenger seat made the most sense. I've been driving and tuning for a week. It's kinda cool, I can make a dozen adjustments a day, and not smell like gas, or get dirty fingernails. Drive it to work, make changes at lunch in my business atire. When I get it totally dialed in, I'll post some pictures and lessons learned.

hey guys,

the storage compartment behind the passenger seat sounded like the best place for me too but did you route the harness through the cabin or under the car? i'd love to run it under the car and not drill the firewall.

and maybe a dumb question but where would you get steel fuel line long enough to make a return line?

Thanks a lot guys!

Not a dumb question. I looked for a long time until I went to a parts store that caters to big rigs. They had 3/8" brake lines that are absolutely perfect for this. They come in 5' lengths with fitting on both sides. They also have brass blocks to connects lines. I used 3 5' lines and cut both end and flared. They are soft enough to bend in shape and I managed to install the return line with the body on the frame. They're also very corrosion resistant.

Commander wasn't avail when i bought (1998?). I liked the Projection 2 & 4's cuz you didn't need a laptop to tune. Now that i have one, it is on my upgrade list -- right after the Weiland 142

I followed the positive battery cable route from the storage compartment thru the drive tunnel. I used the original 3/8" fuel feed line as my new return line, and temporarily am using fuel injection grade 3/8" hose for the new line. I will be replacing that with steel braided hose soon.
