Default Powder Coating Calipers

I just bought a set of calipers and had them powder coated. I noticed that the powder coater pluged the brake line taped hole but coated the surface where the copper washer seats from the brake hose fitting. The serface is not that machined surface I would like to see but now has powder coating there and it is not that smooth. Does anybody have any experience with a similiar situation?

I'd take a razor blade and clean it off to ensure a good seal with the copper washer. Otherwise brake fluid will eat at it.

I haven't tried anything on it "yet" Wouldn't the powder coating be to hard to cut with a razor? I was thinking more of grinding it off but was afraid I would not get it smooth enough.

Its not that hard or that thick, just use a straight edge razor blade and scratch it off. Worst case dab some paint remover or brake fluid on it. You don't want to dink up a machined surface with a grinder.

You can trim the powder off with a razor.

Thanks for the help guys. I feel a lot better about it now knowing I have two options between the brake fluid softening it up and scrapping with the razor. Thanks again for the help.

Default Follow UP Powder coated calipers

Here is a follow up: I got the powdercoated surfaces cleaned up- after 3 hours. I installed the calipers and all the other goodies, pads ,SS lines, new rotors, and went to fill the system with Dot 4 fluid. Here is the surprise. 3 out of 4 calipers are leaking like a strainer from the center joint. Where the two halves are joined. I am guessing the powder coating is also in the surface where thye "o" ring seals the two halves. I called the vendor I got the calipers from and was told about a new employee that no longer works there who obviously screwed up . After a big apoligy I was told that a new set of powder coated calipers and new pads were going to be shipped overnight on monday to me from a competiors shop. Because the competitor stocks the powder coated calipers it would save time to get them from him. I will reveal the vendor if this is not settl:ed by tues morning when FedEx is supposed to arrive. We will see what hits the fan then.
