Default 1971 lap belt clarification...

I need seat belts for my '71 roadster. I know not all convertibles came with shoulder belts as did the coupes. Did all 1971 lap assemblies come with stub for a shoulder harness? Did the seat backs come with the pass through hole only when used with the shoulder belt option? In other words, no shoulder belt, no hole? Was 1972 the first year for lap belt retractors? Thanks, Jim.

My 71' Vert which did NOT have shoulder belts have the stub for the SB. There are no cut outs in the seat for the SB when only lap belts were supplied. Can't answer the ? about the retractor.

You live in Alaska? How about filling out your profile?

72 was the first year for lap belt retractors.

71 Lapbelts came with shoulder belt stubs on convertibles whether you took the shoulder belt option or not. Seats did not have holes for the belt if that option wasn't selected.
72 was first year for seat belt retractor. Shoulder harness was still an option on convertibles.
Have one of each vehicle and would prefer no retractor as the lap belt never fails to function but the retractor can be a source of pain.

That's because shoulder belts were still optional on convertibles in 1975.
They didn't become "standard" equipment until 1976 when, of course, there was no convertible option.

I have an extra set of 1970/1971 lap belts and they have the stud for the shoulder belt.

Is this the best way to tell a 71 from a 72?
