Default Need some help!!!!!

my vette is a 74. I have a big block built for it, on the stand ready to go. But it has a rpm air gap on it. will this clear my stock hood? I've seen post that a small block with one of these will fit with a drop base air cleaner. I hope the big block is the same.

The short answer is no. There's not much that will clear the stock 73-74 hood with a BB. In my oppinion the best street intake you can run under the stock hood is the 68-69 L-36 intake. Your other choice is a Torker2 which is a small single plane. I run a cleaned up 68 L-36 intake on my 73BB, and it does well up to about 5300 rpm or so. That rpm air gap may clear something like the stinger hood on my 69 but even that would be iffy, it's currently running an intake about as tall as the regular performer rpm and it's awfully close.

Hi Pat,

Please post a few shots of your 73 BB hood set-up. I have to make a decision on a hood shortly. I have the performer intake on my 454 and have calculated a 1 5/8" difference in height from the stock manifold. Hopefully I can drop the body on soon and take some accurate measurements.

What pictures are you looking for exactly? I'm running the factory air cleaner assembly (seal and all), with the L-36 intake which was slightly taller then my stock Ls-4's. I do however seem to remember that the performer intakes will clear minus the cowl induction seal and ring but the ports on it are smaller then the stock L-36's. Let me know what pics you need.

If you can, please send me a shot or two of the air cleaner assembly and your hood. I'm hoping to reuse my stock air cleaner and mate it to the air plenum in the hood. I think I can lower the air cleaner by about 1/2" and am hoping to use the seal ring.
