Default 1968 Corvette Speakers

I have the original speakers out of my car. And I took them with the radio to get cleaned. The guy said the speakers are not in good condition. What are the speakers rated at? Can they be rebuilt? Or is there any set of speakers that work with the original radio?

The '68 Delco radio speakers are 10 ohm speakers and rated at about 15-20 watts (rms). Replace them with 8 ohm speakers that are rated at 20-40 watts. Higher wattage speakers are very inefficient and won't generate much sound from the Delco head.

10 ohm is correct as stated. You can also run 2 4 ohm speakers in serries--front and back on each side-- to get the 8 ohm.

There is a guy that adverts in Hemmings Motor News for reconing speakers. I think it is even in the Corvette section of the guide.

Nice to know, I guess. If you have the "perfect" Corvette...except for tinny sounding speakers...maybe you spend big buck$ to re-cone the originals. {That would be right up there with re-manufacturing exact replicas of GM-only screws that are no longer available.}
