What's this?
This is mounted on the passenger side between corner of carb and distributor and suspect it is a controlling feature for the vacuum advance that might work off of a temperature sensor? I am wondering should I use it or just go with manifold vacuum; I have no idea whether it is complete or even works. Thanks, original rebuilt distributor going in this weekend I hope.....[IMG]

That looks like an electrically operated vacuum switch that might have been part of the emissions system....perhaps to send vacuum signal to the distributor 'can' [or not, depending on engine temps]. Someone with a '72 electical schematic may know precisely what that is.

It's the TCS solenoid for the emissions system.
