Default 1978 pace car

I'm new the the corvette forum, and basicly corvettes in general. I drove my dad's 84 coupe and loved it. I've started looking for a vette to call my own, and at first sight i fell in love with the 78 pace car. What are these things really worth/whats a good price for them. I've been shopping arround and i've seen everything from $15K to $125K.

I think $125K is a bit much for a '78 Pace Car. Talk to Rhys about it. He's got one and maybe he can give you a better suggestion.

car whould have to be real good to be worth 15k,there are lots of things that can make or break a car. the frist thing is to think with you head not your heart.read all you can about the corvette .here is a good place to start.do not narrow you search to one car, there are lots of good years and models, take your time!you have the car alot longer the it will take you to find it.good luck

Actually $15k isn't too much for a pace car... thats about right for one in good working condition with maybee a few bugs to work out. 125k is completely BS, I have seen ones with like 7 miles on em that like never moved after they were built and they arent anywhere near 125k. I would say about 13-16k (depending on how much work you want to do) for one that will make you happy. This is considering a mostly original one.

You might be able to find one that was driven alot with new paint and a different engine for quite a bit less. Rhys can be a bit critical that everything is original from what I have seen. :smash: :smash: Not that there is anything wrong with that dude

$125K is whacked. You occasionally see low/no mileage, pace cars for under $30K

Here's a nice, low mileage one for sale:

That guy with the 125k one is really not serious about it.

15k to almost 30k is what I consider the appropriate range. 15 k is a driver that really doesn't need anything (L48). 30k being a top flight L82 4 speed.

Prices vary across the country and depend upon various criteria. There was a considerable amount of hoopla back in 77/78 over what these cars were going to be worth. A few unfortunate souls paid way, way, way over sticker price for them based on nothing but speculation. Look at several and compare prices before deciding which one to bring home.

Rhys can be a bit critical that everything is original from what I have seen. :smash: :smash: Not that there is anything wrong with that dude
I've seen Rhys' Vette, and although I can tell you that it is an AWESOME looking 78 PC, I can also tell you that he's not that much of a stickler for originality. It LOOKS original but remember, he's the one who was going to chuck his Quadrabog for a Demon or Holley but the forum convinced him to hold on to the Q-jet (:cry I was hoping to be the beneficiary of his refuse). He's already installed true dual exhaust, and has plans to pull the L48 and replace with a more potent engine. As he's just completing a frame off restoration on his PC and works with a company that deals in Corvettes, I think he's a pretty good resource on this.

Yeah, I think Mean Green has been talking to Roy. I don't think Mean Green knows the details of my car. Here is the non-original (looking) list: heads, comp cam, dual exhaust, intake, paint, t-tops, antenna, tires.

Here is the non original (actual) list: in addition to above: carpet, seats, center console, both gauge bezels, clock, master cylinder, entire suspension system, radiator, all brake lines, dash board, windshield, front bumper cover, A/C system....

How's that for original? :bb

I think I can lay claim to the -least- original 78 Pace Car.
New radio, speakers, engine, transmission(700R4), bilstein shocks, rear sway bar (originally not gymkhana), tops.
And I love it more than any other car on the road!

Of course, in that photo, it doesn't have my new transmission or the USA-1 front plate, but can you really tell?

RoyArms, that is one seriously purdy Vette. Absolutely the only vette that would get me out of my 69. I just love those pace cars. Serious bat mobile.
