Do you have the sending unit out of the tank? If so, hook up a volt meter, and ground it to the body of the unit. In the down position(empty) you should read about 9 ohms, and you should see the ohms decrease as you move the float up to the full position
thanks guys. Mine doesn't work! I cleaned the contacts to make sure, and it isn't working. So I bought a new one and I checked my method of testing and it was nice and gradual all the way to about 90 ohms. So the old one definitely doesn't work.
The original Delco senders are still available. Rock Auto has them for about $118. Also, Dr Rebuild has them for about the same price. He doesn't describe them as Delco but he does describe them as NOS. Repro versions are about $70.
