Not trying to second guess anyone as I know very little about this, but my 75 has rubbing issues on the front running 255/60/15s. Maybe I have some other problem?
man after my own heart...if is not too much to ask...what offset and/or backspace and if you don't mind, what make/model of wheel and tire...and how about a nice side shot pic of your 72? PLEASE!!
Wheels are 9 1/2 X 17 with 4 1/2 inch backspace. Currently I have 295/35/17 Hoosier A6's on the car. I do not believe I could run the large tires on the front without the 2 1/2 degress of neg camber needed for Auto X. They would rub the fenders.
On my '72 I'm running 225 7015 on the front and 255 6015 on the rear, Eagle GT2s. There is no rubbing. I went with these sizes because the height (outside diameter) is almost the same. 27.4" front and 27.1" rear. The rear tire is just wider. It's close but it clears the stock trailing arm and spring. It seems like a great combination. The only thing is I just read that Goodyear recommends a 6" to 7 1/2" wide rim for the 225 7015 and the stock rally wheel is 8". I have been driving on these for ten years. Hopefully it's safe.

Is 2 1/2 camber a lot? I mean, I don't autoX, yet, just got her, but what is the down side of the neg camber for just normal every day driving? Will tires wear some % faster? Really like the looks of the wide paws.

Yes 2 1/2 is a lot but necessary to keep Hoosiers from wearing out on the outside edge prematurely. At about $300 per tire you want to get all 60 or so runs out of them. You would not want to have anywhere that much neg camber on a car driven on the street. The insides would wear. My car is only AutoX'd and is trailered to the sites.
I'm not going to read the entire thread so forgive me if someone has said this already. Your front tires will rub in two places, on the frame rail and on the body near the front of the rocker moldings. There is a corner that sicks out into the wheel well. Get a hack saw and cut it off, no one will see. If I remember correctly, this was actually done by the factory for later years. This corner of the body is sharp and will cut through your tire over time. I speak from experience. No need to worry about the frame rails, they will just get polished.
