I am going to change the top on my 72 vert.
Looking for a good reputable vendor. As I peruse my catalogs, Corvette Central has what looks like a good top kit as well as price.
I watched Al Knoch himself install a top at the Chevy Vette Fest a couple years. Was like watching an artist at work. Took him a couple hours. I tried talking him into putting a top on my old Buick with no luck.
I bought my top from Al Knoch. It is made of stayfast type material which is the same as the tops on the C5 and C6.

I have the same top as Eddie. With the help from the video and people on the forum (especially Wally and Eddie) I did mine myself. It came out good for a first timer. I bet I could do and even better job next time.
Yep, Al Knoch is the way to go. The stock ones are often on sale for under 2 bills. If you're doing it yourself, ask lots of questions, plan on at least one day to tear it down and check out your frame, then at least one more to assemble it. Also, I could not have done it myself without an assistant! I was REAL nervous about tackling this, but it came out real nice. Only problem I had was not having everything ready (new rubber, needed a front bow), and installing the rear plastic lock strip. That was a bear... There's a how-to somewhere in the archives (Paul?) that has great pictures and step-by-step instructions as they go along.
You might schedule an appointment at Bloomington or Carlisle and get Al Knoch to do it. They do great work. I have an Al Knoch "Stayfast" top on mine, but installed by another shop.

That's a good point, I had mine done by a local shop because mine was vandalized and couldn't wait. The top is super, but I can knit-pick some little things I wish the installer did differently.
Purchase the Al Knoch DVD, and his materials. It is a DIY job if you take the time to view the DVD and and go slow. Follow Al's instruction to the letter. I am pleased my my new top. Pic shows job 80% complete.
