Default Header Choice

I'm looking at getting a set of Coated Headers for my 72 from either Jegs or Summitt. Between Hooker, Hedman or Cyclone can anyone give me some feedback on there headers they have installed and how there holding up to the heat?

Past experience (many years ago so thing could have changed), was Cylcone headers were base line quality...basically inexpensive and you got what you paid for. Hedman and Hooker have excellent names. My own car has Sanderson headers installed...absolutely superb quality.

To be honest, you have to determine how your car is to be driven, what rpm range you'll be using the most, then find what brand and model headers fit that use best, then look at the features...thickness of the tubing and flanges, and coatings available.

Hedman Elites seem to be very good for the money with good ground clearance.

Hooker Super comps are great. They have the 1 3/4 primaries and sound great. I bought a slightly used pair for 140.00. They are over 600.00 new. Get ceramicoated, they really help with the under hood temps.

I'm gonna have to second him. I just finished installing my Stan's Tri-y's and they were of extremely high quality. Fit was fantastic and the ceramic coating top notch.

I spent more initially but I expect to have this product ALOT longer than a cheaper header. I paid $740 shipped to my door for ceramic coated headers and adapters. A little more than most would spend but I'm glad I did. HTH...

Bottom line IMO:
1. Must fit and give good clearance for your year model.
2. Ceramic costs a bit more, but well worth it in the long (durability) and short (rust) terms, plus the heat related issues.
3. Must fit your budget. I got lucky and got a set through a member here that met all three.

May get slammed here, but you can overspend for a basic street/fun driver. For a basic fun car, go with the best price you can find that meets 1 and 2 above. You will get a performance improvement but balance that with the dollars spent.

Dynomax ceramic coated here. Perfect...excellent ground clearance and I can easily get to all the plugs.

As an original owner of a 79,one of the first mods when car was new I added a true dual exhaust and Hedman coated headers and ceramic coating still holding up.Whatever headers you choose is a personal choice, but only use the coated headers!Later Geno
